'A splendid love story, so beautifully told.' Colin Dexter, O.B.E. Bestselling author of the Inspector Morse novels.
When Patricia accompanies her father, Major George Carstairs, on a trip to Ladakh, north of the Himalayas, in the early 1960s, she sees it as a chance to finally win his love. What she could never have foreseen is meeting Kalden – a local man destined by circumstances beyond his control to be a monk, but fated to be the love of her life.
Despite her father’s fury, the lovers are determined to be together, but can their forbidden love survive?
A wonderful story about a passion that crosses cultures, a love that endures for a lifetime, and the hope that can only come from revisiting the past.
Poorly written and poorly edited
Far too many adjectives. Far too many repeated words in consecutive sentences. I couldn't even get beyond the prologue as the language is so distracting and clumsy. Oh for the want of a good editor.
Thoroughly enjoyable - moved to tears.
An excellent book, well written and edited unlike many of the free books. Had me gripped throughout. Having spent some time in the Himalayas I felt the author did justice to the sheer beauty of the place as well as writing an entrancing narrative. I'm not sure the previous reviewer read the same book? Though we are all of course entitled to our opinions.
The Road Back
I read this book from the library, surprised to see it here as a free download. It's a beautiful novel, had me in tears. I see it's won an award and been short listed for another - so well deserved. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author. Fabulous debut.
