The Temp is a twisting thriller about ambition, deception and betrayal by Michelle Frances, the number one bestselling author of The Girlfriend.
No one was going to replace her. Were they?
Carrie is a successful TV producer in a high pressure job. She’s talented, liked, and well-respected. She and her husband, Adrian, an award-winning screenwriter, decided years before that they didn’t want children. But now, just as they’re both at the pinnacle of their careers, she has discovered she is pregnant, and is shocked to find that she wants to keep the baby. But in a competitive industry where time off is seen as a sign of weakness, Carrie looks on the prospect of maternity leave with trepidation.
Enter Emma, the temp, who is everything she could wish for as her cover: smart, willing and charming. Carrie fears that Emma is manoeuvring her way into Carrie’s life, causing turmoil in both her marriage and her work as she does so. The problem is everyone else adores her . . .
Increasingly isolated from Adrian and her colleagues, Carrie begins to believe Emma has an agenda. Does Emma want her job? Or is she after even more?
The Temp - couldn’t put it down!
Firstly, the tag-line on the front cover simply doesn’t do it justice. This story isn’t simply about a young up-start who wants the life and career of a successful TV producer - although that’s the way you’re lead to start with. The author then does what she does best, as the plot starts to twist and turn and the complexities of the characters’ motivations keep you guessing right until the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this writer’s first novel ‘The Girlfriend’ and I absolutely loved this second book which delves even deeper into the foibles of the human condition and looks at what we’re prepared to do, under the most exceptional circumstances, to keep our head above water and claw back what is rightfully ours. 10 out of 10!! Looking forward to reading more by this author.
Well worthy of 5stars,!
