Those in Peril

Book 1, The Hector Cross Novels

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

Hazel Bannock is the owner of the Bannock Oil Corp, one of the major global oil producers. While cruising in the Indian Ocean, her yacht is hijacked by Somalian pirates and her nineteen year old daughter Cayla kidnapped.

Major Hector Cross is an ex-SAS operative and the man behind Cross Bow Security, the company contracted to Bannock Oil to provide all their security. His loyalty to the Bannock family goes beyond the call of duty.

The pirates demand a crippling ransom for Cayla’s release, and complicated political and diplomatic sensitivities render the major powers incapable of intervening.

With growing evidence of the horrific torture to which Cayla is being subjected, Hazel calls on Hector to help her rescue her daughter. Between them, Hazel and Hector are determined to take the law into their own hands.

From Publishers Weekly

21 March 2011 – Hot sex, ultra violence, rich beautiful women, brave handsome men Smith (The Quest) delivers it all in this over-the-top thriller set largely on the high seas. Hector Cross, security chief for Hazel Bannock, owner and CEO of Bannock Oil, battles Somali pirates led by Adam Tipoo Tip and his grandfather, Sheik Mohammed Khan Tipoo Tip, who have kidnapped Cayla Bannock, Hazel's adored 19-year-old daughter. The Tipoo Tips also plan to capture Hazel and ransom her for several billion dollars as well as torture and murder Cross, with whom they have a longstanding blood feud. Cross isn't going to allow the bad guys to carry out their depredations on the Bannock women, especially after he and Hazel become lovers. The author's vast legions of fans should embrace the lurid action, the larger-than-life characters, and the heated prose with their usual enthusiasm.

Customer Reviews

Classic Wilbur Smith!

Throughly enjoyed it, great also that Wilbur hasn't used someone else to write for him - a sad norm for other writers I used to respect. I look forward to the next one!!

Rubbish

What drivel! Starts out promising with some great story telling but then it turns into a 3rd rate romantic novel written in a language similar to Barbra Cartland. Don't waste your money, find something else to read.

Great Storyteller woeful research

One o the greatest storytellers of all time has finally lost it and let down badly his thousands of fans who in the past have hung on his every word. Those in Peril is not as it's title and blurb suggests about a SuperYacht it a second rate essay on revenge. If Smith has ever seen a SuperYacht it was in a magazine if he has ever been on a tanker it was for cocktails because his ignorance on how this things operate ruined what could have been a good tale. This book is definitely very much below par for this great man
