Year 4: The Age of Discovery - Australian Curriculum

by Keilor Views Primary School

This course material is only available in the iTunes U app on iPhone or iPad.

Course Description

Enter the world of discovery. Let's find out about famous explorers before the 1800's.

This iTunes U course has been designed to support grade 4 students in understanding important explorers of the past as well as provide teachers with an exemplar for building their own iTunes U course.

The activities and materials are based on having students build a portfolio as an eBook as they acquire knowledge and understandings.  The work samples contained in the course provide examples of genuine student artefacts.
The structure of the course is:
  • Pre-assessment
  • Knowledge building via a range of interactive resources
  • Higher order thinking (applying knowledge and making predictions)
  • Post-assessment (self, peer and teacher)
Importantly, the student assessment rubric was collectively generated by the students, which ensured a strong commitment to quality assurance in terms of the completed student portfolios.  The students were required to make specific reference in their eBook portfolios to the stated Learning Intentions (sourced directly from the Australian Curriculum)
