About the Film
Cadência is the second documentary focusing on Brazil from director Daren Bartlett. Cadência builds an intimate picture of Brazilian football and the cultural traditions and social divisions that it is closely related to. Cadência honestly portrays the unifying effect that football has been within a divided society, and the ways that it has been used as a political tool to shape the image Brazil projects to the world. The film's stunning cinematography immerses the viewer in the sights and sounds, the rhythms of a city as it winds up for carnival, the biggest celebration of the year. Insightful and passionate commentary from the late Brazilian football legend Sócrates, academics, artists, and not least everyday people, combine to make this powerful and poignant documentary simply a beautiful film.
Carnival & the Beautiful Game
Following Daren Bartlett's documentary about capoeira, "O Zelador", "Cadencia" joins the dots between football, music and carnival in Brazil. Gorgeous photography, a poetic sensibility plus a great interview with footballing legend Socrates make for a memorable documentary about Brazilian cultural life. Recommended.
A beautifully shot study of the rhythms of Brazil .... charting the fortunes of the Brazilian football team through several world cup campaigns. A fascinating interview with legend Socrates and a behind the scenes look at carnival made this informative and stunning to watch ... would recommend to anyone interested in football or brazilian culture in general...
An insightful and inspiring documentary. As well as the well known traditions of football and Samba, this film gives a rare glimpse into more underground customs too. Highly recommended!
