She was born in Detroit on an automobile assembly line. But she is no ordinary automobile. Deep within her chassis lives an unholy presence. She is Christine a red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury whose unique standard equipment includes an evil, indestructible vengeance that will destroy anyone in her way. She seduces 17-year-old Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) who becomes consumed with passion for her sleek rounded chrome-laden body. She demands his complete and unquestioned devotion and when outsiders seek to interfere, they become the victims of Christine's horrifying wrath. John Carpenter brings Stephen King's best selling novel to life in this chilling thriller.
One of the best films with a rubbish plot!
Let's get one thing straight; this movie has a stupid, silly plot. A car coming to life makes a rubbish movie (eg: 'The Car' 1977), yet being based directly off a Steven King story, with a good cast (feauturing Keith Gordon from 'Jaws 2' and Baywatch's Alexandra Paul), good dialogue, gripping scenes, good setting (California 1978) and a great director, John Carpenter's 'Christine' is ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVOURITE MOVIES. I mean, not only does it do it for me as a car guy, or a fan of Steven King, but the movie is just set beautifully, with an excellent soundtrack (including Little Richard, Buddy Holly and The Rolling Stones) alongside good directing with special effects (no CGI here!), the movie makes up for everything it lacks, such as slow pacing and the ridiculous plot of an evil car. I have to say, the '58 Plymouth is so cool, as it is filmed, and how it gives a great twist all the way throught the film from the beginning to end! 5/5
A True Cult Classic
You only have to have been the bullied kid at school to appreciate this film, Keith Gordon plays the lead role of Arnie Cunningham and gives a superb performance transforming from the bullied nerd to the murdering car owner. The car has also become a classic and is very rare now, Richard Carpenter of the Carpenters owns one. At £6.99 you are getting great value, a bit of an unbelievable storyline but is a superb film.
Yes yes yes !!!!! This film is THE BEST, All time Classic ,it does give you a sense of reality for those people who give there cars names and it some how pulls you in to believe a car could be so mental . Yes it is,in my opinion a superb film and it always will be .
