From acclaimed filmmakers Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer, and Andy Wachowski, the powerful and inspiring epic drama Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future. Featuring an all-star cast led by Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.
Not for some time have I came across a film that was so underestimated. by the critics and the public
It seemed to disappear from our screens in a whimper and hoping that the movie release on disc and other formats will show everyone how good this production really is and move it to the cult status is richly deserves.
Masterpiece - Nothing like it
I believe that just like a beautiful work of art and a fantastic symphony, a movie can be a masterpiece. Having watched all of the Matrix films from the Wachowskis, which were groundbreaking films, Cloud Atlas was set to be something big. Having only watched the film a few months ago, I have to say that is was extraordinary. To the critics and reviewers who don't know a work of art when they see one, the film is so ahead of its time that sceptics just don't understand how good it really is. Yes it was slightly hard to follow and maybe was disjointed at times, but it made up for it by the fact that it combined numerous different film genres which is really hard to do well, captured sadness, beauty, friendship, love and comedy throughout the film, with death and evil. Not to mention a great cast, who were not restricted by their gender, ethnicity or age of the characters being played. I'm a movie lover and this film went straight to my number 1 spot, ahead of Lord of the Rings, Alien and Life of Pi. Definitely a 10/10 movie and worth watching numerous different times.
Looks like a marmite film from these reviews
Loved it, excellent, captivating film. Kind of philosophical sci-fi with a heart? Rather like marmite it is hard to describe, you really have to try it. If you're not sure whether to give this film a try from these reviews then read a full one, something like Empire online to get a better idea if it's your cup of tea as I did before seeing this in the cinema. You should know it contains several short stories from differerent periods in time [past, present and future] with themes, stories, people, music [and a birthmark and actors...] linking them together. It jumps backwards and forwards between stories but this is cleverly done and not hard to follow. I thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in the stories/worlds created and did not struggle to understand the themes even though I have not read the book. It stayed with me afterwards, always a good sign to me and I even saw it a second time 2 weeks later and was not bored for a moment; enjoyed picking up a few details missed the first time. I will read the book eventually and I know I will happily watch the film again. As for marmite, personally I can take it or leave it so I suppose eventually someone will give this film something other 1 or 5 stars.
