Driftwood is the story of 15-year-old Sam, a swimming prodigy, whose life is split into two very different worlds: a poignant antithesis between talent and achievement at the dawn of his sporting career, and fear and torment in his home and social life. Starring Neil Maskell (Kill List, Basic Instinct 2, Atonement, It's All Gone Pete Tong).
This movie is stunningly beautiful. From the tension between father and son, to the underwater shots. Perfectly acted, extremely well directed, everyone involved should be extremely proud, and onto bigger and better things! Magnificent
A beautifully shot short film. Particularly loved the opening pan-out of the high-rise, the superb underwater camera work, and the reversed motion clips towards the end. Excellent acting, especially from the lead boy, Sam. Very atmospheric and tastefully used music score. The suspense is held throughout, and the feel-good factor at the end is lovely and heartwarming. Well done to all involved. This should win a BAFTA!
A perfect example of ‘Show, don’t tell.'
For anyone studying film making, particularly shorts, then this is how it should be done. With little dialogue James Webber and his cast evoke a chilling sense of impending violence. Great camerawork, score and editing ensure we’re really involved in the story.
