From Oscar-nominated screenwriter Sylvester Stallone ("Get Carter," "Rocky") and director Renny Harlin ("Deep Blue Sea," "The Long Kiss Goodnight") comes a cutting-edge action drama about an exciting cast of characters living life in the fastest of lanes of the thrilling and dangerous world of high-tech car racing. Stallone plays Joe Tanto, a seasoned veteran of the racing circuit brought out of retirement to help guide a wild young rookie to victory. Also starring Kip Pardue ("Remember the Titans," "But I'm a Cheerleader"), Burt Reynolds ("The Crew," "Boogie Nights") and Gina Gershon ("The Insider," "Face/Off").
Stallone Cars = Fun and Action
The main thing you have to remember when you are going to watch this, is that it is not trying to be an accurate racing film it is just that, a film. meaning bounderys can be moved to suit the screenplay.
Now, stallone is one of my all time actors (excluding oscar and stop! or my mom will shoot) What he gives us here is a great car racing film, nice story and a schumacher lookalike for good measure. The visuals were well ahead of their time and when you see through his eyes whilst he is driving it makes you wish 3D was available then as it would be spectacular.
All i can say is give it chance, Take it for what it is, and if you want a bit of entertainment, this IS FOR U.... 9.5 / 10 just because its stallone racing if nothing else. Still one of my favorite films from him.. Please release on Blu Ray....
It's not F1.......
........ But then its not trying to be, even thought the person above seems to think it is. Just go into the film with an open mind and watch it for enjoyments sake, not motorsport and I think you will enjoy it.
NOT for F1 Fans!!
Oh gosh, where to begin............
Ok, excuses first. It's midway through the F1 summer break and despite several warnings from my chums I decided to watch Driven because I need my fix of F1 in 2 week doses. That's my pathetic reason for watching this!!
This "film" is not about F1 in any capacity, it's a very strange dichotomy of oval racing and fantasy motorsport. The (ahem) storyline centres around some people you won't care about and lots of very odd crashes that culminate in people surviving what can only be compared to the end of the world. This is also confusing because it talks of "Grands Prix" and "World Championships" but most of the races are on oval tracks in America. I don't get it.
On that note though, the soundtrack is ok and the sound of V12 engines roaring actually kept me persevering to the end - this is a good thing right??
It pains me to be so negative, but if you are a fan of Formula 1 then this is not the right film for you purely because it's not about F1. And it's not remotely good.
