About the Film
From the writer-director of Napoleon Dynamite comes another quirky comedy about growing up. Benjamin (Michael Angarano), home-schooled by his eccentric mother (Jennifer Coolidge), is a loner whose passion for writing leads him on a journey as his story first gets ripped off by a legendary fantasy novelist, Ronald Chevalier (Jemaine Clement), and then is adapted into a disastrous movie by the small town's most prolific homespun filmmaker.
The Yeast Lord Cometh
I love this movie! Forget the reviews from smarmy critics who say the jokes are lame and the 'act' isn't selling - this is a sweet nugget of a film about a teenager who likes to read & write escapist sci/fi-fantasy novels full of lasers and bonkers creatures. Now you either read bonkers sci-fi fantasy novels at a certain age, secretly (or openly) still do - or you don't and never will. If not fine go and watch a 'heartwarming comedy' about sassy thirty-somethings or whatever somewhere else. I'll thrill to the adventures of Bronco (featuring the ever more brilliant Sam Rockwell) and the sneaky goings-on of Ronald (or should that be Ronald-aneous...) Chevalier combined with the truly odd couple who 'befriend' our dignified loser Benjamin. All this combined with blow pipe shoot-outs, cat & snake faeces and popcorn jumpers - I was converted. Clearly not everyone's cup of yeast-tea but so what.
This is one of those weird but fantastic movies.
This film is amazing, weird but amazingly brilliant. It also has a fantastic sound track to back it up. If your looking for that's funny, weird and down right entertaining watch this film. If you enjoyed Napoleon Dynamite you will most certainly enjoy this.
