About the Film

In the winter of 1820, the New England whaling ship Essex was assaulted by something no one could believe: a whale of mammoth size and will, and an almost human sense of vengeance. The real-life maritime disaster would inspire Herman Melville's Moby-Dick. But that told only half the story. "In the Heart of the Sea" reveals the encounter's harrowing aftermath, as the ship's surviving crew is pushed to their limits and forced to do the unthinkable to stay alive. Braving storms, starvation, panic and despair, the men will call into question their deepest beliefs, from the value of their lives to the morality of their trade, as their captain searches for direction on the open sea and his first mate still seeks to bring the great whale down.

Customer Reviews

Great

If you see into the whole pirates of the Caribbean thing I would pick this film a bit gory at the end because of cannibalising but u can't see that overall amazing film

Somewhat disappointed however...

It is definately a good movie to watch on a Friday night when you don’t feel like going out! I feel the movie definately remained true to the original story of 'Moby Dick' however! I most certainly feel that the screen play could have been so much more enhanced and the storyline filled out. I found my self to be drifting in and out but as it was an interesting movie I did end up rewinding to recap what I had missed.

I can't say I would recommend anyone to purchase this movie and so for that reason, I will give it no more than three stars.

Excellent!

Didn't have high expectations but this well made and gripping from start to finish!
