About the Film
From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton (Best Animated Film, WALL•E, 2008) comes John Carter — a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic novel, John Carter is a war-weary, former military captain who's inexplicably transported to Mars and reluctantly becomes embroiled in an epic conflict. It's a world on the brink of collapse, and Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands. Stunning special effects, great characters and villains — John Carter is a heroic and inspirational adventure that will thrill you beyond imagination.
TERRIBLE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!
I could only stand about 6 miserable minutes of this film. It is appallingly bad! Maybe children would get some enjoyment from it. I even doubt that. I do not know what the positive reviews are all about!?!! It is no wonder the film flopped completely. 0 stars.
A thoroughly enjoyable movie for anybody that likes sci-fi. There is also the bonus of having some period western at the beginning. I usually don't write reviews but have been prompted to on this occasion by the unfair treatment I feel this movie has received. A great shame it was panned by the critics and thus got a poor showing at the box office. I'm not claiming it deserves any oscars but it's good fun, has exciting action, is visually brilliant, the story line is interesting enough and the pace kept me interested throughout the entire two hours. It also has its own character and quirkiness. I regret listening to the critics and being put off watching this at the cinema. I'd now quite like to see a sequel and a further development to the story. Seriously don't be put off this movie by the negative group think of the critic community. On this occasion they got it wrong.
So bad it's good
If you forgive the fact that is probably one of the most bizarre film you've ever seen, forgive the crazy plot, the rushed ending - then you will probably have a good time - it's so bad it's almost cult viewing. If you've got a family of mixed ages and its a wet Sunday afternoon, get some popcorn and go for it - the optimistic film-making and crazy effects will give you a warm feeling
