Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson unleash heartfelt laughs as John and Jenny Grogan, a young couple contemplating the lifechanging decision to have a baby. Then comes Marley...an adorable, rambunctious Labrador pup who flunks obedience school and quickly turns the Grogan household into a disaster area.
A Must For All - except perhaps for young children
I first heard about Marley & Me when I saw the book in Waterstones and it grabbed my eye immediately since it had a picture of a labrador puppy on the front cover. I read the synopsis on the back and it sounded rather good, especially as it was the author's own true story. Being me over books though (I always look at the same books every time I visit a book store and I always have to be sure that I will enjoy the book and want to read it again and again before I buy it) I didn't buy Marley & Me. When I read that it was being made into a film I was instantly keen to see it, as I love Jennifer Aniston and it looked really good. So I went to see it at my local cinema with my mum and sister, and very much enjoyed it. I am a passionate animal enthusiast and I love dogs, (I have a West Highland White Terrier myself), so I really cried out loud in the cinema towards the end. I have never cried so much at an film before, let alone at a cinema, and it would've been embarrasing if it had not been for everyone else in the cinema crying pretty loudly too. I havn't seen any films with Owen Wilson in, so I was new to him as an actor. I thought he and Jennifer had great chemistry together as John and Jenny Grogan. The story was told well and the dogs that were used in the film to play Marley were extremely well trained! I absolutely loved the scene with Marley trying to get out of the car and he ended up walking with his two front paws on the road while John Grogan held up his hind legs, that really made me laugh out loud. This film had pretty much everything. I agree that with the way the film was advertised it looked like it was going to be just a cute puppy film where it seemed to be aimed at children and that was mis-leading. But please don't judge this film because it wasn't that child-friendly one you took your child to see. I suggest watching it again, by yourself, and see if it doesn't make you laugh and cry. I will definately buy the book now!
I read the book first then watched the movie ( I reccomend it in that order!) Even though the movie is not a patch on the book it made me laugh histerically and cry like nobody was watching. This is an amazing film but please do read the book.
Marley and Me - Excellent!!!
Such a good, light hearted film, with a very sad ending. I stringly recommend to anyone with a sense of humour, and loves dogs!!!
