Winner of the Grand Prix Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016, 'Mimosas' is a spiritually and exquisitely crafted gem, which has been described by Oliver Laxe himself as a 'religious western'.'Mimosas' follows a band of travellers in the desert who are trying to cross from one place to another to bury an elderly sheikh. While most of the caravan dissolves, two of the travellers, previously contemplating robbing the group, have a change of heart and decide to take his body on an arduous path in an attempt to bury the man in its rightful home. Structured in chapters based on Sufi prayer positions, the film's procession through the rugged landscape is presented as a low-key phantasmagorical journey through time and place.
