About the Film

Directed by Jim Loach, Oranges and Sunshine tells the real-life story of Margaret Humphreys (Emily Watson), a social worker from Nottingham, who uncovered one of the most significant social scandals in recent times: the organised deportation of children in care from the United Kingdom to Australia. Almost single-handedly, against overwhelming odds and with little regard for her own well-being, Margaret reunited thousands of families, brought authorities to account and worldwide attention to an extraordinary miscarriage of justice.

Customer Reviews

I cried......

Then I cried some more. I never knew something like this had ever happened.
I feel sympathy with the families who went through this torture.
Beautiful film and 5 stars!

What a good film

A really good film, kept me glued the whole time. Based on a very interesting and real story I just wish it could have been longer

remaining silent

this film is too late - now it is a documentary on history - 30 years ago it would have changed a nations view and alterd government policy. We all need to remember that we are responsible if we stand and watch and remain silent. a good film.
