About the Film
Screwed is a dark, gritty British thriller based on the best-selling novel of the same name, set in the dangerous underworld of one of the UK’s toughest prisons. Fresh from a traumatic tour of Iraq, Sam Norwood (James D’Arcy) finds himself forced to take a job as a Prison Officer in one of her Majesty’s most brutal institutions. On the inside he learns the ropes from his colleagues, a bunch of hardened ‘screws’, but his life begins to spiral out of control as he drinks and takes drugs to help him deal with the stresses and strains of the job and his past. As he nears rock-bottom, he is unprepared to learn the hardest lesson of all: that the screws are often as corrupt as the criminals they keep. Screwed stars some of the UK’s best acting talent including James D’Arcy (W.E, Master & Commander), BAFTA Award winning actor Noel Clarke (Kidulthood, 184.108.40.206) Frank Harper (The Football Factory), Jamie Foreman (Layer Cake), Andrew Shim (This Is England) & Kate Magowan (Stardust).
This is the usual UK sordid violence; but at least from the tin you pretty much know what you get. It has a nice twist at the end, but otherwise is a fairly straightforward plot. It is not a chick flick by any means, therefore if you are a testosterone charged male 14 upwards you may enjoy...
Pretty average prison movie
Story line was ok...run of the mill prison film. Average acting. Passed away an hour or so :0)
I don't think this movie has been given enough credit.
If you like Green Street, Rise of the Footsoldier, Football Factory or any movie like that, you will love this.
I thought it was awesome!
