About the Film

Press the button and get a million dollars, but someone whom you don't know will die. This is the offer given to Norma and Arthur, an ordinary decent couple played by Cameron Diaz and James Marsden, by the mysterious Arlington Steward (Frank Langella). The question "What would you do?" will ring in your ears as you witness that their decision is just the beginning. Based on a short story by the writer of "I Am Legend" and from the director of "Donnie Darko," The Box takes you on a tense, gripping and totally unpredictable ride as the couple realise that they are part of something greater and far more terrifying than they could ever have imagined.

The Box Review

After reading the below comments, I thought the film would be absolute Rubbish! But I watched it anyway and really, really enjoyed it! It has a good way of gripping you and leading you along right up to the twist at the end. I think everyone has an opinion, so watch it to find out if you liked it or not :D

Smarter than your average film.

I saw this film at the cinema and thought it was great. I can understand why it did not do so well and why it has got, so far low ratings on here, thats because it is not a film of a particular genre, part thriller, horror and sci fi.

Yes it is based on a book which was made into an episode of The Twilight Zone episode, I am not sure why that is a bad thing, but I do love the Twilight Zone.

Like Donnie Darko and Southland Tales, this film requires the audience to think a lot more than they do in most of Hollywoods output, not just by trying to work out the plot but raising deeper ethical questions.

Well worth a watch, but if you want passive entertainment this is not the film for you.

What a mess...

I was really looking forward to seeing this film, the trailers did their job of intreaging me, I thought it'd be interesting to see what the film does with the concept of 'the box'. (I always say, the less you know about a film beforehand, the better).

What a huge dissapointment.

The film starts well enough, the acting is very hammy (Intentionaly, I think.) but it went at a steady pace. There's a point in the film when the main characters finally make their choice regarding 'the box' where the quality of the story just plummets head first into the ground and doesn't stop.

While watching The Box, I got a very strong Twilight Zone feel from it. I did some research (In the middle of the film, I really wasn't enjoying it) and it turns out that this film is based on a short story that was also made into a Twilight Zone episode called Button Button. Further research revealed that the original story only covered up to the point when the box is taken away from the protagonists (Can't recall any names), everything after that point (The really terrible stuff) is totally tacked on by the writer/director.

I reccomend anyone interested in this film to avoid it at all costs and hunt down the short story and Twilight Zone episode 'Button Button'. The Box is by far the worst film I have ever seen and i'm glad I didn't have to spend money on it! (Flat mate rented it)
