From the twisted minds behind Saw IV, V and Saw VI, THE COLLECTOR is a real-time game of cat-and-mouse, melding primal horror with a cracking suspense thriller. An ex-con, Arkin (JOSH STEWART) is trying to get his life back on track, and out of desperation decides to rob his new employer's country home, unaware that a second criminal has also targeted the property, and rigged it with a series of deadly traps. As the seconds tick down to midnight, Arkin becomes a reluctant hero trapped by a masked “Collector” in a maze of lethal invention, while trying to rescue the very family he came to rob.
Well this was not what i was expecting when i bought this film. I was expecting a film that was trying to compete with the SAW series, but i was wrong. This is a creepy, unrelenting, disturbing, unpredictable, gripping, brilliant horror film.
The story follows an ex-convict, Arkin, who is trying to pay off his wifes debt by breaking into a wealthy families home, but he is not the first criminal to enter the house. The atmosphere created by the director is tense and unpredictable throughout the film. The traps are not as complicated as the SAW traps but they are just as inventive and dangerous. And like the other reviewers said, the cat and mouse game between Arkin and the 'Collector' kept this film tense and incredible.
As a huge horror fan i got everything i wanted from this film, it is a near perfect horror. I was freak out quite alot by the disturbing scenes and the traps, i was on the edge of my seat nearly all the way through this film. It is a gory film but it isn't over the top like most horror films recently. The best way i can describe this film is a combination between SAW and The Strangers.
This is in my top 10 horror film of 2010 and I highly recommend it to any one who likes a clever unpredictable horrors like any of the SAW films, The Crazies(2010) or The Strangers.
Saw.. With oomph !
Anyone who has watched any of the saw films and got bogged down with the stupid plot twists and turns, where all the film does is emphasise how much gore you can fill a set with will greatly appreciate this film. Yes it's got blood, but it's more the intricate game of cat and mouse and the tension that builds that gives this film that added extra omph over pretty much the whole of the saw series.( Apart from maybe the first one), the main patriarch is a thief and were not really meant to care for him, but the way the characters develop you actually feel empathy for him and his plight and, in turn, want the spoilt rich family to bite the dust, all I can say is if u want a good old fashioned horror movie, with a bit of guts but more tension than obsurred plot dynamics then look no futher, oh by the way...watch out for the cat !!
I actually turned it off with 15 minutes to go...just couldn't be bothered to sit through any more of it. Bit rubbish really, I thought. Flimsy, tired, contrived, superficial, hackneyed, tedious, unclever are words that spring to mind.
