Plot Summary

Academy Award®-nominees Annette Bening and Julianne Moore star in this funny, smart and vibrant portrait of a modern American family. Nic (Bening) and Jules (Moore) are your average suburban couple raising their two teens, Joni (Mia Wasikowska) and Laser (Josh Hutcherson), in Southern California. But when the kids secretly track down their “donor dad,” Paul (Mark Ruffalo), an unexpected new chapter begins for everyone as family ties are defined, re-defined and then re-re-defined. Fall in love with the big-hearted comedy that critics are calling “one of the best films of the year!”

Customer Reviews

If only American cinema was always like this

Smart, emotionally intelligent, caring and interesting.

Boring!

What a waste of time and money. Got this as it was advertised as a comedy. Couldn't see where the laughs were. A pointless film. Don't waste your money!

Why all the 1* reviews?

What do people want from a film? This film was well acted, good paced, well written, took the time to build some characters without taking so long as to lose your attention. It is warm and funny in places and tackles numerous sensitive issues in an entertaining way. Watch it! Enjoy it. If you don't like the genre don't bother but certainly don't come back and rate it 1 star because that is really very shallow. Rant over
