About the Film

Academy Award®-nominee Viggo Mortensen leads an all star cast including Guy Pearce, Academy Award®-winners Robert Duvall and Charlize Theron and an incredible debut performance from Kodi Smit-McPhee. THE ROAD is a thrilling and deeply moving tale of survival as a father and his young son journey across a barren, post apocalyptic America. Respectfully adapted from Cormac McCarthy’s hallowed novel, THE ROAD boldly imagines a future in which men are pushed to the worst and the best that they are capable of – a future in which a father and his son are sustained by love.

Customer Reviews

I read the book a few months ago, and this film is a great adaptation of Cormac McCarthys work. excellent film.

Don't expect the usual post apocalyptic hollywood movie rubbish with over exaggerated special effects like 2012. The event is touched upon in a little dialogue but is then forgotten, as this is a story about a father and son living in a time where the human race is at its most desperate.

Viggo Mortensen (the father) is what you would expect, he give another great performance, and Kodi Smit-McPhee (the son) does and incredible job with McCarthys material. Robert DuVall, Charlize Theron and Guy Pearce are all at there best. And a brief appearance by Michael K. Williams (Omar - The Wire) was a welcome sight as The Thief.

All round i loved this film and its beautifully told.

Bleakly Wonderful

A great movie. Any gamers out there.. a bit like watching a Fallout 3 movie! Quite agree that this is an astonishing film with a wonderful turn from Viggo. It's thoughtful, reflective motifs & overall mood of despair do not make it light viewing so if it is escapist fantasy you're after this might not be it!

A stunner...

The most powerful story of a fathers love for his child yet told. The book was fantastic and while the film lacked some of the nuance and detail of the book its still great. After decades of fathers being painted as buffoons in TV and film this film swings the pendulum back and then some.
Watch it -- it will get into your head and live there a long time, art.
