Plot Summary

A prelude to the John Carpenter classic, The Thing takes place in an isolated Antarctic outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival after an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. Paranoia spreads like an epidemic among the researchers of the marooned colony when the creature is determined to have shape-shifting powers, allowing it to become a perfect replica of any living being. But this mystery from a different planet may look like any other person, but inside...it’s inhuman. Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton.

Customer Reviews

Why all the mediocre reviews??

I was not sure about this film, after reading the reviews as some are not particularly great.

However, I decided to watch the movie and really enjoyed it. It is well made with great acting and effects, plus the story keeps you on the edge of your seat! I wondered how they would tie it in with the original film, but think they did a good job and would definitely recommend that fans of the first see this!

Too pricey.

£10 too much for a remake of a remake. Apple's horrid pricing strikes again.

The Thing

I saw this movie a while back and will certainly download this film when available to rent to see again. I did enjoy this prequel and the acting was good as well as the SFX. If you're hoping to see a completely different 'take' on the original then you will be disappointed. It is very similar with a handful of differences but interesting nevertheless. If the makers had given more thought/creativity as to how to give a whole different take then, obviously, it would have been so much better.

Would I recommend this film? Yeah, I would but take the film for what it is and have no high expectations.
