About the Film

An edifying must-see that has received accolades at film festivals the world over, 'We Were Here' is the first film to take a deep and reflective look back at the arrival and impact of a definitive chapter in San Francisco's queer history. It explores how the City's inhabitants were affected by, and how they responded to, a calamitous epidemic, opening a window of understanding to those who have only the vaguest notions of what transpired in those years. In the face of adversity they stood strong and united. This is their story.

Incredibly moving

This was an incredibly moving film, I didn't really know what to expect as my knowledge of what happened in San Francisco in those years is pretty bare, but after seeing this I will definitely tell my friends. Can't believe this chapter of history hasn't been explored in more detail before. Highly recommended.

I saw this and thought is was inspiring and something we could all do with watching. also found this quote from a guy at the New York Times that says it better than i could:
“Of all the cinematic explorations of the AIDS crisis, not one is more heartbreaking and inspiring than WE WERE HERE… The humility, wisdom and cumulative sorrow expressed lend the film a glow of spirituality and infuse it with grace.” Stephen Holden, New York Times

All should SEE this !!!!!!!!!!!!

As a Gay male who lived through this in the UK and the USA this movie hit home hard. I look at the Gay / Straight youth of today and they have lost something. This film hopefully will return some of what the Gay / Straight youth of today has lost.
RENT or BUY JUST SEE it. It's truly quite wonderful. Thankyou for reminding me of such a sad, tough and loving time.
