EDITORS’ NOTES

Founded in 2004 (and named, curiously enough, in homage to Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean), Sheffield's Bring Me the Horizon are standard-bearers for U.K. metalcore. Their debut album, 2006's Count Your Blessings, exploded onto the scene with a mixture of triple-time blast beats, mosh-ready breakdowns, and singer Oli Sykes' throat-shredding growl. While just as heavy, later albums like 2013's Sempiternal flirted with more radio-friendly sounds: buzzing synths, brighter melodies, and even choruses you could sing along to.
