EDITORS’ NOTES

Just when punk rock was coming into its own, Adam & The Ants came along to show people just how weird the music could get. Combining David Bowie's theatricality with Johnny Rotten's snarl, Adam Ant wove fetishism and futurism into his lyrics while his band played a raucous brand of proto-New Wave behind him. While he initially struggled to find an audience for this odd combination, an overhauled lineup and hits like "Stand and Deliver" and "Prince Charming" would eventually make Adam Ant an icon to freaks and geeks around the world.
