Brilliant Wargaming and Boardgaming Podcast

There is lots to like and very little to dislike about this podcast if you are into miniature wargaming and strategy boardgaming. The host is enthusiastic and engaging and the audio quality is generally very good. The show has been running for several years now (I've listened to them all at least once, some several times) and the content has been consistently excellent.
There are currently three basic show formats: the in-depth review in which Neil looks in detail at the mechanics of a rule set or boardgame, often supplemented by a look at figures and terrain appropriate to the game; the interview, in which Neil will discuss the latest project of a rules writer/publisher or figure manufacturer; and the round-table, where Neil will discuss a game or games with one of the co-presenters. There have been several co-presenters over the last few years, but currently Rich Jones and Mike Hobbs are most often on and both are also very good value - although every so often the audio quality is marginally less good from the recording taking place over Skype.
The shows can vary quite a lot in time from an hour to over two (and on one occassion about four, if I remember rightly) but generally it is packed full of interesting content, very rarely becoming rambling or meandering. It can be quite fascinating to follow publicly how the host's enthusiasm for various projects can wax and wane over the episodes and how his 'lead mountain' never seems to get smaller...
The shows are published often but not exactly regularly, if that makes sense! However, they are always welcome listening - personally I like to have them on in the background whilst doing some painting. If only the host could find someone else's gaming podcast to listen to, to give his painting output a much needed boost!
Highly, highly recommended.

Essential listening (and viewing) for the non-GW gamer

2015 Revision: After several years of listening to this podcast now, I can only add to my previous review that it has retained all that is good about the show despite the various format changes. Evolution is good. The "go-to" podcast for great content. Great work chaps.

2009 Review: Like this well-infromed podcast a lot.

Neil has led me on to new things and inspired me to revitalise my love for this hobby. Particulalry like the Veranda episodes. Incoming! is a bit dangersous while driving!

A Very British Affair

This is a show with a very British flavour. It covers miniature wargames in all their forms, from the easy-to-learn miniature boardgames like Memoir 44 and Wings of War, to massed armies of painted figures arrayed across large battlefields. It touches on all scales of figures and all and sizes of combat (squad level upwards), and discusses both rules and figures. If your interest is miniature wargaming in general then this is the podcast for you.
