Maori House Update Review

Midi 1103 4 March . . . Listen as Andrew Mueller lets Oscar Guardiola-Rivera go off on a conspiracy theory ladened rant about evil right wing elites and their “generaless" coup in Brazil. I had hoped that amiable Canadian ex-pat Jeffrey Kofman might have challenged our South American friend, but no . . . Usual rules apply under Mueller’s stewardship: no critiquing the left. The “show”was bookended by the usual Trump hate sessions, completely ignoring the any rational analysis of the US election primaries and the broader issue of checks and balances within the US Constitution.

Midori 28 Jan: Another unbelievably ill-informed rant on current European boarder protection by Sebastian Borger of ‘Berliner Zeitung’ and Robert Fox of the ‘London Evening Standard’. Especially galling was the dismissal of the Swedish processes in respect of their announced deportation of non-qualified asylum seekers. There seems to be a reluctance by Monocle to understand that Borger is no longer capable of dissecting current events logically; he is politically and emotionally committed to a particular ideology at the expense of facts. Robert Fox says at one point that he “absolutely understands Sebastian’s logic” . . . really? That at least makes one person.

Midori 1073 and yet again another fundamental error by a so called specialist commentator. In this case the guest states that Australia doesn’t accept asylum seekers. Wrong. Australia does take asylum seekers, it takes them from refugee camps throughout the world. In fact Australia (pop = 25m) took more Syrian asylum seekers than the US (pop = 300m) in the recent special round of intake pledged to by nations through the UN. Australia introduced a no boats policy after thousands died taking the people smugglers route under the open door policy of the centre-left (2007 - 2013). Please Monocle get some guests who bother to read details and not just shoot from the hip based on their own political views.
