The Religions of the Ancient Mediterranean podcast explores social and religious life in the Greco-Roman world, especially early Christianity including the New Testament. Half-hour episodes are released bi-weekly from September to June (with a summer break in July and August). These episodes are not scripted; they are edited versions of improvised lectures from point-form notes.

Fascinating Listening.

I have learned a lot from these interesting lectures and they set the scene for when the Bible was written by describing the the culture and mindset of the participants, so far as we know. I am not religious but am interested in History and why people follow religion. Excellent! March 11 2008

This is an excellent series and extremely informative on the foundations of the New Testament. I know from othe reading that Professor Harland has manage to compress an enormous amount of information into his lectures in a concise and easily understandable form. I look forward to the rest of the series and hope they continue for a long time yet.

This is a fantastic chance for the public worldwide to have free access to an academic lecturing on a subject which is relevant to us all. The podcasts are a great source for anyone interested in the early history of Christianity, which should be taught far more throughout the western world. This is praise indeed from an unrepentant atheist who just wants to know the history and facts as far as the historic record allows us to ascertain them. Dr Harland's teaching style is easy to follow and impressively unbiased. Strongly recommended for free thinkers everywhere.
