The GROGNARD RPG files is a podcast that looks at RPGs from 'back in the day'. Each episode concentrates on the original rules of a featured game, our experiences of playing the game, PLUS excellent contributions from @dailydwarf selecting highlights from the halcyon days of White Dwarf magazine.

Back in the Day

If you played RPG in the early 80s, particularly in Britain, this will provide you with wonderful, often moving, memories of back in the day.

Even if you didn't it will provide you with a brilliant insight into the games of that era.

Highly recommended.

Really great podcast for tabletop gamers

I'm no grognard but I do love this podcast. Dirk's narrative style is engaging and amusing; he and the other contributors clearly demonstrate an deep knowledge and deeper love for their subject. I've never played Runequest but, after listening to their first episode, I really want to. If you like tabletop RPGs of any flavour, check this out, I think you'll love it.

A rich trip down Memory Lane, to Gringle's Pawn Shop

A fine reminiscence on the joys of first discovering RuneQuest 2, back in the 1980's, drawn into a modern context with an appreciation of the developments of 21st century RPGs.

The style tends towards monologue, which in a podcast of this length some might find a teensy bit wearing, but Dirk's Boltonian tones and gentle (and clean) humour made the whole affair quite soothing for me personally.

The podcast shows a clear and deep understanding of RQII and a critical appreciation of the game, and is at its best during the light hearted dialogue with Dirk's Rules Lawyer gaming friend - more please!
