A Welcome Friend

This is a great Podcast for Audio heads - Anyone who is currently making music with computers, software and electronic instruments. I use Maschine and Komplete as well as 3rd party plug ins and libraries.

There's a shorter YouTube version of this show which I have watched and it is also excellent, so I wasn't sure if I'd bother with the podcast. However, I prefer this format as it really gives you a chance to listen to the sounds of the product being reviewed.

The presenter Ruben Cornell is clearly very knowledgable and has a good pedigree as he has been a Computer Music Magazine journalist for many years and he is also a composer - his music can occasionally be heard in the reviews.

The only couple of very minor criticisms of the show is the intro music (its a bit too twiddly and irritatating for my taste and that there needs to be a bit more emphasis on what is unique about the product. For example the seem to be way too many cinematic underscoring Kontakt libraries out there and they all begin to sound the same, so knowing what helps it stand apart is really useful.

One of the huge strengths of The Samplecast is its diversity. There is a wide range of prices, sounds styles, sample packs plug-ins reviewed here. Which I find really useful. Ruben also directs you toward some huge discounts.

I really enjoyed the recent composer interview (a French chap (I think) who composed Chamber music. I enjoyed this because a great deal of the focus goes on the technology and ultimately those who listen to this will be making music.

In a world where there has been an explosion of Audio products the Samplecast is a welcome friend.
