Father Figure

Tom invites his timid neighbours Helen and Brendan over for a relaxed dinner party to say sorry, after previously causing them minor injuries in a disastrous incident with the barbecue. But, chaos is never far away where Tom is concerned and his family are convinced things will go horribly wrong with him at the helm.

Tom tries his hand at a bit of DIY ahead of a relaxing evening with his family. However, things are never straight forward where the Whyte family is concerned and it soon descends into mayhem. Within hours, they are stranded in a lay-by and discover that they have left their youngest child, Drew, at home alone.

Tom is first to admit he's no domestic God, but when a national competition to find The House Husband Of The Year is announced, he is dragged into a rigorous training schedule. With his competitive mother Mary as his trainer and the assistance of Pat, Roddy, Elaine and his sons, Tom eventually finds his inner Mammy and goes head-to-head with his neighbour Tim.

Karl, Elaine's ex-boyfriend comes to stay and Tom finds it hard not to be jealous - especially since everyone is swooning at Karl's magnificent chin. Tom gets increasingly insecure and makes a huge fool of himself.

Tom hates his family's dependence on gadgets and hides them so that they start using their imaginations more. The family are all furious at the decision and Tom has a battle on his hands.

It's a big surprise when Elaine thinks she might be pregnant and this news affects Tom in a way that no-one, least of all he, expected. Roddy meanwhile searches for the perfect woman to share his life with.
