Cleaning Up

Sam is a struggling mum with an online gambling addiction, desperately trying to keep her life together after separating from her husband. With her ex, Dave, threatening to take her daughters away, Sam wants to prove she's a dependable parent to her two daughters, Alice and Lily. But getting back on track looks impossible for Sam with spiralling debts and having to a work zero-hour contract on the minimum wage as a cleaner in Canary Wharf. Sam's life is thrown into disarray when she discovers access to lucrative and illegal stock market information at the office she cleans. Realising this could be the answer to her prayers, Sam starts delving into the high-stakes world of the stock market. Persuading her best friend Jess to come in on the secret, the two cleaners start to navigate dangerous new territory.

Sam's money-making plan starts to bear fruit, but it comes at a great cost. Frustrated by her mum's constant absence and the new lodger living in her bedroom, Alice seeks refuge at her dad's house. Sam's new lodger, Glynn, grows closer to Lily and babysits her when Sam has a job interview, but the trouble at home is affecting Sam's youngest daughter, and Lily gets them into trouble. Devastated by the possibility of losing her daughters, Sam's addiction takes hold and threatens to ruin her friendship with Jess. When Sam's listening device is found in the office, an investigation is launched and the women's information source is cut off. Desperate to make amends with Jess and bring in some money, Sam follows an inside lead and enlists the help of a fellow cleaner, Mina, to execute a risky scam in another office.

While the investigation continues at the office, Sam and Jess are interrogated by the firm's compliance team. Jess admits to Sam that she has made a pivotal discovery: Blake left a phone in his office containing details of his illegal trades and linking the women to his insider network. Against Jess's advice, Sam takes an enormous risk and makes contact with 'Swanny', disguising herself as Blake's silent partner. Swanny is intrigued by this new broker, and Sam soon finds herself getting in far deeper with him than she bargained for. At home, Alice starts to learn more about her parents' separation and her mum's addiction. Sam and Dave are brought together when they are required to attend Lily's Parents' Evening. Dave drops a bombshell which further undermines Sam's life with the girls.

Terrified that her identity will be revealed, Sam navigates her way through the Network meeting. Promising Swanny that she can fill Blake's shoes, she is left with the impossible task of acquiring secret information about an upcoming property deal. Sam ropes in Jess and Mina to help with her biggest scam yet, but things don't go according to plan. Meanwhile, at home, Sam attempts to appease Alice by confronting her demons, and tries to organise a big birthday party for Lily, but her spiralling debt catches up with her, leading her to make huge sacrifices and rash decisions.

Sam and Swanny grow closer and he entrusts her to make a large investment for him. Sam is seduced by Swanny's glamorous and risky world, and goes to desperate lengths to pull off the extraordinary task. As Sam revels in her new persona, Dave starts to notice the change in her. But Glynn notices that Sam is still in financial trouble at home as she receives a worrying visit from her landlady. In denial about her dependence, Sam relents to Alice's pressure and agrees to go to a meeting for gambling addicts - but runs into some unwanted company. Meanwhile, Jess and Mina are both put under pressure to come clean as the investigation into illegal activity in the office comes to a head.

With Swanny on her back desperate for his money, Sam's world falls apart when her landlady returns with some devastating news. Coming clean to Dave might solve Sam's problems but she risks losing her family. With no job and no home, Sam moves in with Jess and together they concoct a brilliant but dangerous idea of how to get their lives back on track. But the Network will go to any lengths to protect their names.
