Honored with the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, as well as 14 Emmy Awards and numerous other awards and honors, ER follows the lives of the emergency room staff and residents of County General Hospital, where the difference between life and death rests on split-second decisions, and the pressure, joy and guilt are often overwhelming. The heroic healers who live this life are as varied as the patients they treat. New to the emergency room this year is Lucy Knight (Kellie Martin), a diligent third-year medical student beginning her rotation — and about to discover there's more to medicine than what she reads in books. Outstanding episodes include "Stuck on You," directed by David Nutter; "Middle of Nowhere," where Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) finds himself out of his comfort zone at a rural clinic in Mississippi; and the two-part episode "The Storm." Guest stars this season include Djimon Hounsou and Mare Winningham. Fans will also see the departure of Dr. Ross (George Clooney).
