Recovered missing episodes of Doctor Who, the world’s longest running sci-fi drama are being revealed and available to view and own for the first time in over 40 years, Ten Doctor Who episodes were discovered through the tracking records of shipments made by the BBC to Africa that contained tapes for transmission. A restoration teams has re-mastered episodes 1,2 ,4, 5 & 6 from the original black and white 1960s film and subsequently gone through a frame by frame restoration to the fantastic quality that audiences expect from Doctor Who. Episode 3 has been reconstructed using stills and audio. This is the 1968 story, The Web of Fear, and, as the original episode three remains missing, part of this story has been reconstructed using stills with the original audio. Starring Patrick Troughton alongside Frazer Hines and Deborah Watling the story introduces Nicholas Courtney for the first time as Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart (who later returns as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart). The TARDIS narrowly avoids becoming engulfed in a cobwebby substance in space. It arrives in the London Underground railway system, the tunnels of which are being overrun by the web and by the Great Intelligence's robot Yeti. The time travellers learn this crisis was precipitated when Professor Travers accidentally caused one of the Yeti to be reactivated, opening the way for the Intelligence to invade again. The travellers work alongside army forces as they battle the alien menace, hampered by one of their number who has fallen under the Intelligence's influence and is a traitor in their midst. The Intelligence's goal is to drain the Second Doctor's mind. The Doctor sabotages the device with which it intends to achieve this, so he can drain the Intelligence's mind instead, but he is rescued by his friends before he can bring his plan to fruition. The Intelligence is repelled into space and the Doctor and his friends leave the army to clear up the mess.

The Doctor once again crosses paths with the robotic Yeti from the earlier Doctor Who adventure "The Abominable Snowmen”, and with the alien – the Great Intelligence - who controls the monsters. The adventure begins when the Doctor investigates some unusual activity in the contemporary London subway system - little realizing that there's more to this case than a few renegade commuters who refuse to pay their fare!||24:56||£1.89||View in iTunes|

Badly tagged, but wonderful just the same
Putting the wrong labels on film cans is a long tradition in Doctor Who archiving, but really, it's a pity to make the tags for Enemy of the World episode 1 and Web of Fear episode 1 indistinguishable in iTunes, and have neither one of them even mention the story title. This was my first experience with downloading DRMed videos from iTunes, and what a mess - the interface, the untrue claim that there are no more downloads to make when there are (but you have to follow an unobvious link), being told to authorise and then that you had already done so, etc.
I aim this critique only at Apple, though. It's wonderful news, just wonderful, and to think that the number of surviving copies of these episodes has just risen from 1 to (I imagine) tens of thousands is oddly moving.
Could do without the whole story being in the synopsis, y'know.
Dream come true!
As a younger fan at the young age of 19 I have always been very depressed to think that there will be such great episodes that I will never ever get to lay my eyes upon. This is one of the best finds in the shows history and a story that is so relevant. The first appearance of the Great intelligence is very relevant considering the finale to the last series. And since unit and Kate lethbridge Stewart will be appearing in the 50th it is great to see the first appearance of the Brig played by dearly departed Nicholas Courtney. As as one of the biggest who fans ever this is for me one of the best bits of news I have ever received. Now I can't wait to watch it and see the fearsome yeti!
