Jim Caviezel, Michael Emerson and Taraji P. Henson team up in this thought-provoking crime action drama from The Dark Knight’s Jonathan Nolan and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions (Fringe, Lost, Alias). Set in New York City, with all of its multifaceted elements of justice, this procedural centers on an ex-CIA agent, presumed dead, who partners with a mysterious billionaire to prevent violent crimes. Using data siphoned off the U.S. intelligence agencies’ threat matrix deemed irrelevant to national security — information concerning not terrorism, but violent crimes of a personal nature — the unpredictable former agent Reese and his enigmatic partner, Finch, identify a “person of interest” and set about solving the mystery of the impending crime that person will be involved in. Tapping into the world’s Big Brother–like surveillance network, the shadowy duo knows that something bad is going to happen; it’s their mission to discover what that event will be … and somehow prevent it.

Batman Without The Cowl
I have been fortunate enough to have seen all of season one in the USA and personally think that it's the best new show on television. That said, it was only halfway through the season that I realised just how much like Batman this story is … a vigilante covertly taking care of a city's menace, an intelligent 'stay at home' wingman who shares his secret, a tough cop hunting the fabled avenger whilst torn as to whether he is actually doing more good than bad. When you consider that Jonathan Nolan (brother of Christopher and co-writer of the recent Batman films) is one of the creative forces behind this show it's not hard to see the similarities.
Jim Caviezel is superb as the battle-hardened hero, his quiet manner contrasting his explosive (but often necessary) violence. He is a worthy successor to Christian Bale as the Dark Knight one day, in my humble opinion. Believe me, you do not want this guy coming after you! And Michael Emerson is, as he was on Lost, fascinating to watch.
The first season actually gets better as it goes on. Once the audience is made comfortable with the format the producers of the show then introduce new major characters and sub-plots, building on the already-solid premise, which ultimately results in one of the most exciting finales I've seen on TV in a long time.
Highly recommended to anyone who likes entertaining action delivered with intelligent writing and superb performances.
Don't be fooled into thinking this is just another cop type procedural, it is so much more than that. The back story for and relationships between Finch, Reese and the Machine are complex and fascinating. There are lots of 'clues' scattered about each episode that give added insight in how these relationships came about. On top of all that the show will get you thinking about things like what is 'privacy' is in th 21st century, is it ok to do the wrong thing for the right reasons, does sacrificing our privacy by giving up information to the outside world make us safer or actually put us in danger. As I say a really great show and by far the best thing on tv at the moment.

I like this series very much - but - what's happened to the rest of the episodes?
