Description

The inside story of how Vladimir Putin, a consummate political operator with a background in the KGB, become a valued ally of the West. After eight years as President of Russia and four more as Prime Minister, Putin is stubbornly holding onto power. He has announced his intention to return as President, and declared his United Russia party the winner in parliamentary elections that have widely been seen as fraudulent, leading to mass protests in Moscow and elsewhere. Featuring contributions from Putin’s top colleagues and the Western statesmen who have clashed with him, this insightful documentary asks when his policies began to provoke deep concern in Washington and London. It looks back at how, in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, Putin quickly aligned Russia with the West, surprising many in the Kremlin. The world had changed – but at home Putin was becoming increasingly authoritarian.

Dreyfuss58

A thoroughly factual program that includes many interviews with politicians and playmakers who were there at the time and upon whose shoulders some huge life-changing decisions were placed. Brinkmanship at its best!

Incredibly well detailed.

As a keen observer of Russia under Putin, I thought that this gave a better insight to what had happened across Russia in just over a decade. From his election to his clash with middle-class protesters outside the Kremlin in Moscow, it charters all.

Would recommend to anyone who is interested in learning about Putin's Russia or anyone who just wants to know more.

Fascinating documentary - I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Very interesting documentary. I cannot say whether the portrait of Putin painted in this series is accurate and credible - but it is for sure an exciting series that manages to depict a fascinating character of this man. My interpretation of the portrayal of him in this programme is: He is an unpleasant, but effective, politician in a turbulent Russia with a very difficult internal and external environment.
