Spies of WarsawHDCaution

Open iTunes to preview or buy TV programmes.

It is 1937, and Colonel Jean-Francois Mercier, a highly decorated soldier from the First World War, is the military attaché stationed in Warsaw, Poland while the shadow of Hitler’s Nazi regime looms over mainland Europe. Mercier is grossly suspicious of the German military’s intentions, but he must juggle his formal duties at stifling diplomatic functions with the often death-defying realities of espionage.

Spies of Warsaw

I’m a big fan of the set of spy novels by Alan Furst, and this is a very nice adaptation of one of them. Adapted by two of the senior masters of UK TV it is more Tinker Tailor than Spooks. The novels are multi-layered and with many characters and so is this. Period detail is lovingly recreated. It’s not crash bang entertainment but if you like to immerse yourself in a far away world about which we know very little then this is for you.
