Over the years the Classics label have done an admirable job reissuing rare jazz sessions in chronological order with great sound quality and informative liner notes. They are also dedicated to applying that same care to their outstanding Blues and Rhythm Series. This particular set features 26 tracks recorded by boogie pianist Amos Milburn from 1947, the second year of his tenure with Aladdin Records. This is highly recommended for anyone who can't get enough classic jump blues.

Boogie piano master Amos Milburn was born in Houston, and he died there a short 52 years later. In between, he pounded out some of the most hellacious boogies of the postwar era, usually recording in Los Angeles for Aladdin Records and specializing in good-natured upbeat romps about booze and its effects (both positive and negative) that proved massive hits during the immediate pre-rock era.
