One of numerous Javier Solís best-of compilations on the market, A 40 Años... Me Recordaras looks back four decades to remember the late Mexican legend. Known for rancheras and boleros, Solís was one of los Trés Gallos Mexicanos, a trio of Mexican singing stars who also acted in the cinema of the era. Like his fellow Gallos Mexicanos, Solís died tragically young, in 1966 at age 34. A 40 Años includes 25 of his best-known songs. The CD/DVD edition adds 11 videos.

Born Gabriel Siria Levario, Javier Solis became known as one of the most recognized Mariachi solo artists in Mexico. Coming from humble beginnings, at a young age Solis had to drop out of school to help support his family. He trained as an amateur boxer for six years with aspirations of turning professional, but quit after his father urged him to choose a more "decent" career. The young man used to sing in local competitions for small prizes (such as a pair of new shoes), but was eventually banned...
