Album Review

This out-of-print two-LP set only has 20 performances and does not list the personnel or recording dates, but it does contain several fine pictures and offers one a good all-around overview of Jimmy Dorsey's commercial recordings. Of the 20 songs, all but four have vocals, mostly by Helen O'Connell and Bob Eberly, with five being vocal duets. Not much is heard from the leader, but it was the singers that made Jimmy Dorsey's Orchestra one of the most popular in the early '40s, so those listeners who enjoyed the hits should pick this one up; it includes "Tangerine," "Brazil," "Green Eyes" and "Besame Mucho."
