Album Review

These instrumental takes on some highlights from the Doors catalog are performed for violin, viola, and cello. They stick pretty close to the original rhythms and melodies, particularly on "Hello I Love You," "Light My Fire," and "Touch Me." However, "Lover Her Madly" adds some barroom piano and what could be keyboard strings behind the violin, "Break on Through" re-creates the bassline with sly class, and "Riders on the Storm" is a brooding and brittle showcase for the violins. String Quartet Tribute to the Doors might have been a bit more adventurous, but it still offers Doors diehards some alternate viewpoints on the band's well-known material.
