The grandaddies of gloom-rock cut loose on a soaring, widescreen return that sees them broaden their sepulchral sonic palette in style. Produced by My Bloody Valentine collaborator Allan Moulder, Ritual encompasses everything from chugging Americana on “Strangers” to the cathedral of pulsing power pop that is “The Power and the Glory”. Then there’s “Bigger Than Us”—a fittingly colossal, stadium-ready blockbuster borne on chiming guitars and Harry McVeigh’s hefty vocal.
