Album Review

Australia's Frenzal Rhomb live in a sad, sad world, where acquaintances bore them with their long winded, pointless stories, girls only want them for their drugs, and even Russell Crowe's crap band gets more attention than their's. But hey, they're not bitter, just snotty about it all, as all good punks should be. And Rhomb are four of the best, and with new bassist Tom Crease in tow, they now unleash their latest set of frenzied, funny, pitiless attacks upon an uncaring planet.

President Bush may have balls, but the breakfast of champions in his homeland, according to the group, are precisely that,

barbecued. As for the forces of law and order, the band pithily put them in their place - "Get a real job," they recommend. Nagging girlfriends are read the riot act, for the band have an older woman waiting in the wings, proudly declaring she's "60, Beautiful and Mine". Rampaging killers, lead poisoned losers, teen-aged parents, incompetent criminals, prats who overstay their welcome at parties, they're all grist for Rhomb's cutting, comic mill.

Musically, the quartet are just as exhilarating, furious melodic punk delivered with power, panache, and more than a dash of humor. Be it tossing joss stick whiffs of hippiedom, or their hilarious adaptation of Cat Steven's soft rock smash "Wild World" transformed into the bitingly sarcastic "White World", Sans Souci won't solve your problems, but will definitely leave you worry free.

After touring as the support act while American punk bands Offspring, Bad Religion, and blink-182 were down under, the group released its first album, 1995's Coughing Up a Storm. Retitled Once a Jolly Swagman...
