Summer Solstice found Slavek Hanzlik coming into his own, developing a provocative fusion of bluegrass, folk, jazz, country and contemporary instrumental. Hanzlik is a graceful, subtle guitarist and a skillful composer, creating a music that has deep roots but sounds modern. Supported by Bela Fleck (banjo), Rob Ickes (dobro), Tim O'Brien (mandolin), Stuart Duncan (fiddle, mandolin) and Mark Schatz (bass, banjo), Hanzlik sounds supple and graceful, resulting in an album of quiet beauty.

Slavek Hanzlik is a contemporary bluesgrass and instrumental musician who came to prominence in the mid-'90s. Hanzlik was born and raised in Prague, Chzechoslovakia and he stayed there until 1982, when he became a political refugee. He moved to Canada and was a citizen of that country for over a decade. He released his American debut, Spring in the Old Country, on Flying Fish in 1991. By the mid-'90s, he moved to the US, making his home in Chicago.
