Album Review

Ricky Dean Fisher's Sunrise Child is a sweet little debut EP that merits repeat play. The title song is a lovely mystical ballad with lucid vocals and crystalline bright instrumentals. "Maniac's Refrain" successfully conveys the fragmented feeling of mental illness, with a distinctive melodic backup. "Phoenix" is a mellow love song, gently performed, with delicate instrumental orchestration. "Tell Me Now (17/70)" would make a great flip side for "Phoenix," as it's about lovers at a parting of the ways. Curious that it's so upbeat and catchy, but then all too many closure songs are teary, so it's nice to find one that's got a positive take on the experience. This taste of Ricky Dean Fisher's talent leaves listeners wishing for more, like a full-length follow-up album.
