Giuffre switches off between clarinet, tenor sax, and baritone sax between pieces, all of which are spacious while never venturing so far out as to lose the listener's attention. "Happy Man" gives the appearance of being an upbeat blues, but Giuffre's free-ranging approach to exploring its theme extends far beyond that artificial boundary; his lyrical clarinet trades off with the soft playing of his session partners.
