Album Review

Crownhate Ruin have to be given a bit of credit for never falling into the sludgy stew of distortion their brand of screamy, dramatic rock tends to incline to — so far as this sort of rocking-indie hardcore goes, Until the Eagle Grins is something of a top-notch release. Which is to say: it's not a wonderful album, but its composition and performance are frequently rather compelling.

A member of Washington, D.C.'s Dischord roster, the Crownhate Ruin formed in 1994 and lasted only until the end of 1996, but not before they were able to record and release an album, 1996's Until the Eagle Grins. Frederick Erskine was the bassist and vocalist, Joseph McRedmond was the guitarist and vocalist, and Vin Novara was the drummer.
