Finally arriving over six years after his last album release, Stoney LaRue's Velvet, produced by Frank Liddell and Mike McCarthy and featuring the best of Nashville’s top session players, finds LaRue tempering his raw Oklahoma red dirt sound with a surprising dose of weary melancholy, a move that may bother some of his rowdier fans, but which also signals a new depth and expanse in his songwriting and singing.
