Album Review

Inveracity have matured a bit since their 2003 full-length debut, Circle of Perversion, which was soaked in gore and sexual violence. Extermination of Millions deals with the apocalypse — as well as gore and sexual violence. This Greek band's brand of brutal, technical death metal is unoriginal but perfectly executed. Suffocation are a big influence (the band likely took its name from Effigy of the Forgotten's "Liege of Inveracity") in the low growls, barreling blastbeats, and machine-gun guitars. Cannibal Corpse are also evident in the twisted riffs and aura of psychological illness. The songs are virtually indistinguishable, but impact is more important here than songcraft. While its performances are scarily precise (the drumming, in particular, is fast and flawless), the band's sense of groove sets it apart from its peers. Despite their high technical prowess, the songs never lose their pulses. "Era of Submission" has a massive first-gear breakdown, while "Before the Uncreation" is head-noddingly catchy. The production is clear and heavy, balancing beefy guitars with nuanced cymbal work. Death metal all too often gets lost in athletic extremity, so this record's headbangability is quite welcome.
