Actress and MTV siren Kari Wuhrer expands her horizons to pop with 1999's Shiny. The album features ten appropriately glossy tunes that appropriate dance, pop, and alt-rock elements; the best songs, like "There's a Drug," "Your Octopus," and "Better Off," focus on the breathy, sassy attitude of Wuhrer's voice and surround it with dancey beats, shimmery keyboards, and crunchy guitars. Weaker songs like "Can't Cope" and "Hands Of Mary" rely too much on sub-Alanis style wailing and formulaic soft-loud dynamics, but Wurher's fans will find plenty to enjoy on Shiny.

Kari Wuhrer took her first big steps into the professional music world on MTV, working as the sexy co-host for the station's popular game show Remote Control.
