About Birds of Avalon

The Birds of Avalon are a gutsy indie rock affair with a psychedelic sheen; their sound, rooted in old-school album-oriented rock, favors comparisons to punchiness and the greasy, retro vibe of bands like Wolfmother, the Evangelicals, and the Sword. The band formed in Raleigh, NC, soon after Cherry Valence members Cheetie Kumar and Paul Siler got married and quit their band. They teamed up with Craig Tilley, drummer Scott Nurkin, and bassist David Mueller, wrote a passel of songs, and had their debut album, Bazaar Bazaar, ready to go by the time 2007 rolled around. The album was released on Volcom in May, and the band rounded out the year on tour, sharing the stage with the likes of the Flaming Lips and Ted Leo & the Pharmacists. The Birds of Avalon's second release, the Outer Upper Inner EP, came out in the spring of 2008. They followed up the next year with their second full-length, Uncanny Valley. In 2011 they released the self-titled Birds of Avalon on Bladen County Records. ~ TiVo Staff
